WW2 Swiss Army Military Short Trenching Shovel W/ Original Leather Sheath 1939

Offered is an old trenching shovel. It is from the Swiss army in WWII - the sheath is marked 1939 and the shovel is 1940. The shovel has the mark “F.A.SCH.40”. The leather sheath has a “39” along with a first aid “+” sign above a “W”. It also has another stamp in an oval that says “ALFR. JOGGI LANGNAU (BERN)”. The leather sheath is in great shape for its age. Some wear but holding up well. It has loops to attach to the soldier’s belt. The shovel measures 21-1/4” long. It has a small brass pin near the rounded ones of the wooden handle which was original to these shovels although I’m unsure of its purpose. The wooden handle is in great shape. No breaks or cracks, nice rounded end. The shovel itself is in great shape as well. Typical scuffs & scratches with paint worn off but it is largely in great shape and is a nice example. It will make a great addition to someone’s collection.
