We are offering an original CDV photograph of the United States Post Office Department Building, Washington D.C. With two men conversing on the street. According to the U.S. Postal Service website, it was the first building erected specifically to serve as postal headquarters. Built in 1841, the building, located at 701 E. Street, NW, was constructed on the former site of Blodgett's Hotel. It was among the first gas-heated public buildings in the city, and also had one of the first central power, heating and lighting plants.
