 WWII Jewish Refugee Schrecker Vienna - Paris 1939 w/ Austrian Revenue StampAnton Wolfgang Schrecker, 1915-1993was the son of Dr. Paul Schrecker anotable Austrian-born philosopher*. He was associate editor of the Prussian Academy of Sciences\' project of publishing the complete critical edition of Leibniz\'s works.In 1933,with the passing of the anti-Semitic Nuremberg Laws,theproject was suspended, andSchreckerwas dismissed from his position. He subsequentlyfled to Paris, where he taught at the University ofParis.
This document is the school record for his son Anton. Itbears official seals from both Paris and Vienna, where a 1 ½ shilling dark rose 1925 Revenue stamp was applied.
But of course, the war would only get worse, and after the German occupation of France, father and son fled to the USA, where Dr. Schrecker taught at the New School for Social Research, Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, Swarthmore College, and at the University of Pennsylvania.
This document is a record of a small minority of Jewish intellectuals who were able to flee the horrors of WWII Nazi persecution
