Model:Original 1929 American Airways Fokker F-10A Display Model.This variant was known marketed by Fokker as the Fokker F.10A“Super Trimotor”as it featured more powerful Pratt and Whitney radial engines. Note that the airplane was designed using the Fokker F.VII but with a larger fuselage and wing assembly for the American market. Only sixty-five airplanes were built andthis particular model represents one of those sixty-five.You can glean more from this original article from 1928. Interesting the Western Air Express was the initial customer for a “model route” from Los Angeles to San Francisco and funded by the “Guggenheim model came from the estate of an retired American Airlines captain who had acquired the model back in the late 1930\'s. The model is all original and was built in 1929 for American Airways.These early American Airways display models are extremely rare. Very few of these models were produced and even fewer exist today.

Aircraft History:This aircraft was a Fokker F-10Atri-motor NC801E, (S/N 1030;ATC# 96), manufactured during May 1929 by the Fokker Aircraft Corporation of America, New York, NY. It left the factory with three Pratt & Whitney Wasp engines (S/N 1189; 1381; 1382) of 410 HP each. It sold on May 17 1929 to Universal Aviation Corporation, St. Louis, MO. Although it is not clear from theNASMrecord, this airplane may have been based at Glendale, WV.NC801E was sold on October 1, 1930 to Southern Air Fast Express, Inc., Love Field, Dallas, TX. It sold again on August 5, 1931 to American Airways, Dallas, TX. During American ownership we find NC801E at Tucson twice. L.B. Andrews flew it in on November 27, 1931 at 12:41PM. He carried two passengers,C.R. Smith and Mr. Corbin. They were inbound from ElPaso, TX returning to theirhomebase, Dallas, TX. Somewhere between December 5 and 25, 1932,John Martinlanded carrying Mr. & Mrs. J.C.Tomlinson. Based in Boston, MA, they were westbound fromElPaso, TXtoBurbank, CA. Shortly, on January 21, 1933, American Airways notified theCAAby letter that the aircraft had been removed from service and would be, “dismantled as soon as possible.” No further information.


Scale:1/30 scale one piece model.The fuselage measures 21.5 inches and has a wingspan of 31.5 inches.
Condition:Good - Original-85 year old paint and decals withsome scratches and paint loss and fading.The tail, wings, and wheels are all wood construction. The engines, props, struts and rigging are all metal construction.The model is showing a little wear, but she is all original, complete, and unmolested!

Detail Features include:1)Original CELLULOID windows with slight damage in the cockpit area. 2)Mass Balance arms on wing ailerons 3)Metal landing gear assembly framework. 4)Handmade metal propellers, motors, and Townend “drag rings”(Townend Ringis a narrow-cord cowling ring fitted around the cylinders of an aircraft radial engine to reduce drag and improve cooling).5)Control cables and fitments in metal.6)Recognition lights at wingtips.
