Large vintage Mexican artisanal pottery vase jug, wood-fired and handled, known as 'El Patojo'. The vase is unsigned. Several Mesoamerican cultures are known to have produced these unique shoe-shaped clay vases, typically used for cooking purposes.

According to the British Museum, "possible use for this shape of vessel would be under a griddle or comal, which would obviate the need for a second cooking fire. Pushed into the fire, the handle remains cool to the touch. Such pots are used by Zapotec in neighboring communities."
