J&E Stevens Cast Iron Document Safe Circa 1890 With Horse Motif: $1300.00
Cast iron document safe, created by the J&E Stevens company out of Cromwell, Connecticut. Best known for their mechanical banks and cast iron toys, the Stevens Brothers produced a number of other products, including "burglar proof" home safes, jewelry safes, and these desktop document safes. Safe measures 11 1/4 inches tall with a folding handle on top and cast iron clasp. Front is painted and decorated with four images of horse heads in various poses. While the inner shelf ledges are intact, this safe does not have the shelf included. Safe also comes with a small lock and key, which I do not believe to be original to the safe.
